Diving into the deep azure of the Caribbean I am elated,
Having saved so long to reach the depths of paradise.
An entourage accompany me, guests from the hotel, And we flop into the sea out of the sight of land.
Experienced divers all, we explore the waters independently,
I swim far from the crew through shoals of fish. Their bright yellow and turquoise fins glint and glisten.
On the sea-bed giant starfish laze outstretched.
Occasionally a barracuda intervenes and fish spray in all directions.
Further I swim, dropping down an underwater ravine, A surreal, awesome experience; falling and floating from a cliff.
Danger exhilarates, spiked anemones beckon from the coral.
Deeper I sink, butterflies fill my stomach, but the sea calls.
Way below the surface in another dimension caverns summon,
In the lair below I am surrounded with drifting beauty.
Elegant pulsating jellyfish drop colourful tentacles.
Transparent, ghostly apparitions plummet from above,
Gracefully stroking the waters with colourful tentacles.
They encompass my being,
I am enraptured,
I forget the venomous harpoons that cling.
More come, and more.
Beautiful bubbles of death.
As I attempt to swim away, they block my path, I am trapped on another planet.
They attack.
The suit offers little protection from their mutated hooks,
It is rapidly torn and ripped almost intentionally, Their tentacles cling to my skin and burn.
I am alone.
Clustering, they swarm at my face, pelting the mask. Acidic venom burns through as panic rises, My face burns, and water caves in.
Water and burning nettles!
I am smothered,
I sink down to the seabed,
My entirety covered in the graceful killers.
Tentacles and water burn my mouth, So painful, so quick.
I am one with the sea.
