Her origins are inseparable from Nicolas DeSilva’s interference in the affairs of her mother. During Elena’s tenure as owner of Corax, Nicolas placed her beneath a trance. An unintended consequence of this manipulation was a dramatic shift in Elena’s behaviour. She became increasingly promiscuous and pursued relationships with members of the Darkbadb Brotherhood, remaining amongst them throughout her pregnancy. There she gave birth to her daughters, Mary and Anne, both of whom were subsequently raised within the Brotherhood’s sphere of influence. While Mary eventually returned to Elena, Anne chose a different path, distancing herself from both her mother and sister in pursuit of a life defined by status, refinement, and influence.

That ambition led her into a disastrous marriage with Casper. Though Anne believed she was securing her future, Casper was interested only in the prestige attached to her title. Once he had obtained what he wanted, Anne became little more than an inconvenience. He subsequently conspired with Dyer-Bolique to have her imprisoned within the Lost Tower alongside Feilecann, the last Mariposa and Dyer-Bolique’s former lover. Isolated and forgotten, Anne faced the prospect of spending the remainder of her existence as a prisoner.

Her rescue came at the hands of Tepes.

Unlike Casper, Tepes valued Anne for herself rather than her title. Following her liberation, the two married and Anne entered the courts of Castle Tepes and Castle D’Aten. There she found stability, influence, and a position worthy of her ambitions. More importantly, she met Theaten.

What developed between Anne and Theaten quickly became the defining relationship of her life. Alongside Tepes, the three cultivated a complicated arrangement that combined political alliance, companionship, and shared appetites. Their infamous banquets became legendary throughout the Deep. Conducted beneath layers of aristocratic etiquette and ceremony, these gatherings saw living tributes consumed before the evening continued in private. Yet despite the public nature of this arrangement, Anne’s deepest feelings belonged to Theaten. The two maintained a private relationship hidden behind diplomacy, discretion, and social convention. Though many suspected the truth, neither openly acknowledged the depth of their attachment.

Anne cultivated a reputation for elegance, discipline, and impeccable standards. She is intensely conscious of appearances and places enormous importance upon etiquette, presentation, and social order. To Anne, refinement is not vanity but civilisation itself. Proper conduct separates nobility from vulgarity and order from chaos. It is a philosophy she applies relentlessly to herself and expects from everyone around her.

This outlook frequently brings her into conflict with Nicolas. Few incidents illustrate this more clearly than his conduct at one of the D’Aten-Tepes banquets. What should have been an evening of carefully orchestrated aristocratic excess descended into absurdity when Nicolas seduced a tribute before the main course had even begun and later started throwing portions of the banquet to Kane, who enthusiastically caught them. Anne regarded the spectacle as an unforgivable breach of etiquette and permanently banned Nicolas from future gatherings. She continues to cite the incident as proof that wealth, power, and intelligence are no substitute for manners.

Beneath Anne’s carefully maintained composure lies a passionate and highly perceptive woman. She possesses a physical attraction towards Allyra, and the feeling is mutual. The two occasionally act upon that attraction, though neither mistakes it for romance. Their connection is rooted in desire rather than emotional attachment and exists independently of the deeper relationships that define their lives.

Anne’s greatest strength lies in her influence. Few people understand Theaten as completely as she does. She recognises both his virtues and his weaknesses, particularly his indecisiveness and tendency to defer difficult choices to stronger personalities. Central to this effort is Calista, Theaten’s favourite tribute. By helping Calista escape and ensuring her eventual return, Nicolas plants the idea in Lilith’s mind that Calista represents a threat. Calista’s removal leaves Anne as the sole focus of his affections and clears another obstacle from Nicolas’s wider plans.

Nicolas’s campaign continues with Tepes. Through a chain of manipulations and carefully engineered circumstances, he ultimately arranges events that result in Allyra consuming the vampire lord. Tepes’s death removes a major figure from Anne’s life and transforms the political landscape surrounding Castle D’Aten.

In the aftermath, Nicolas arranges the marriage of Anne and Theaten.

On the surface, the decision appears surprisingly generous. In reality, it serves several purposes. Nicolas understands that Anne exerts a stronger influence over Theaten than Lilith ever could. By placing Anne beside him permanently, Nicolas gains a far more reliable means of steering his brother than direct confrontation. At the same time, he gives Anne and Theaten something they had desired for centuries.

The marriage fundamentally changes their relationship. For years they had hidden their feelings behind diplomacy, convention, and competing loyalties. Afterwards, those restraints largely disappear. Freed from the need for secrecy, their affection deepens into a far more stable and committed bond. What had once existed in private finally becomes the centre of both their lives.
